All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players.
They have their exits and their entrances.
And one man in his time plays many parts.

with only metaphor, it only describe and compare, however, when the writer uses extended metaphor, it is now not simply description and comparision but it can teach a lesson, or even tell a story. extended metaphor is more colorful than metaphor, the readers can find the connection of the metaphor throughout stanzas, a poem.
